Science Studies

The Science Studies Network at the University of Missouri comprises a loosely affiliated group of faculty from many departments who share a common interest in exploring the place of the sciences in society. The research of individuals in the network ranges across the physical and biological sciences, including technology, and across time from antiquity to the present, encompassing both sociocultural components of scientific practice and the social impact of scientific results. Participants give short, informal research presentations at our monthly meetings and engage in formal and informal collaboration. We also host at least one distinguished visiting speaker from the field of science studies each semester. Like the MU Evolutionary Studies group, and the Life Sciences and Society Program, which sponsors both groups, our network exists to promote substantive scholarly conversation not only across disciplines but across sectors (humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences).
